Computer Scientist, Entrepreneurship & Finding Balance

with Dr. Rachel Draelos

I am excited to chat with Dr. Draelos, who talks about charting a unique career path as a physician, computer scientist, and health tech entrepreneur, finding balance, and career changes as a form of self-compassion.

About Dr. Rachel Draelos

Dr. Rachel Draelos is a physician-scientist. She was the first person to earn an MD and a PhD in Computer Science from Duke University. Her research focuses on artificial intelligence methods development for medical applications. Dr. Draelos is passionate about leveraging trustworthy AI to benefit doctors and patients. Her AI and medicine blog, Glass Box Medicine, has over 500,000 viewers from 170 countries, and her academic publications have garnered over 300 citations.

After graduating from the MD/PhD program, she decided to take an unconventional route, and instead of residency, became the Founder & CEO of Cydoc, a health tech startup.

Cydoc's overall mission is to create a modern, AI-native electronic medical record that automates administrative tasks and enables doctors to spend less time on the computer.

Cydoc's first product is a Smart Patient Intake Form that interviews patients using medical reasoning, then generates an HPI/subjective section, streamlining the visit and helping doctors spend less time writing notes.
