South Africa’s Youngest Female Medical Doctor at 21 & Her Journey

About Dr. Thakgalo Thibela

At the age of 21, Dr. Thibela became the youngest female Medical Doctor in South Africa, earning her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Wits University. At 16, She enrolled at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) to study medicine.

Dr. Thibela became a Golden Key International Society Member at the university. In January 2022, she was honored among 200 Young South Africans by Mail & Guardian, showcasing her impact and potential on a global stage.

Despite her incredible achievements, Dr. Thibela currently faces the challenge of unemployment, a situation shared by over 800 doctors in South Africa. Her willingness to serve anywhere in the country and her openness to opportunities globally reflects her dedication to her calling.
