5 Simple Steps to Crush Your Team Goals in 2023 Without Burning Out
Jan 01, 2023
Happy 2023!
I am sure you have exciting goals for your team this year. These will range from crushing your quarterly targets to developing new leaders. Whatever they are, self-care has to be part of them. Because employees, managers, and leaders often burn out while pursuing goals.
Here are five easy steps to help you with setting 2023 goals.
Identify your goals: Get clear on why the goal is to benefit your team. Your goal should be achievable, but it should also stretch your team. Your group should feel motivated to achieve their goals. Co-create these goals with the team.
Write them down. Yes, you have to write the goals down and make them specific. Use the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-related) framework. For example, if you want to show your team how to reduce stress at work by practicing self-care techniques. Don't say, "increase team wellness," because that's not specific. A better goal would be writing that for 90 days, your team will schedule 15 minutes per day, 3 times per week, to engage in a self-care activity to reduce stress levels.
Break down the goals into smaller steps so your team does not feel overwhelmed. It helps to rank and organize essential tasks. For example, instead of saying you will help the team avoid burnout. Add more context. You can (1) sponsor quarterly wellness sessions or (2) you will add self-care as a topic in weekly team meetings.
Accountability. Make sure your team member is accountable for the goal. This might be the responsibility of the manager. Or you may create accountability pods at work. It is important to check progress.
Reward the team when they crush goals. This helps to keep them motivated. It might be a day off or public praise. Rewards must be part of the process.
That’s all this week. What are your self-care goals this week? I love hearing from you.
Always wishing you the best,
