Why you gain weight (even though you don’t eat a lot)

An executive shared her food diary.

What I saw might shock you.

She was barely eating.  

Sometimes only twice a day.  

Drinking mostly water.  

She wasn’t eating right before bed.  

But she was still gaining weight.  

And that had been the case for years.

Frustrated, she reached out to me. 

Because she was the heaviest she had ever been.

She felt uncomfortable in her own skin.  

But as soon as she started talking.  

I could tell she was embarrassed.  

So before we went on to medical stuff.

We talked about her life.

And what was going on there.

A lot was happening.

Turns out she was perimenopausal.

For women in perimenopause, everything changes.

Estrogen drops, slowing metabolism.

Cortisol rises, making your body hold onto fat.

Muscle mass declines, making it harder to burn calories.

That’s the reason she couldn’t drop the weight.

Even though she was doing ALL the things.

✔ Cutting calories  

✔ Hitting the gym  

She had thought about weight loss medication.

But she was nervous.  

Because of all the things she’d heard.  

I told her.

So we talked about the pros and cons.

Coupled with exercise AND the right diet.

They may help her.

Is it magic? No.

Will it support her body? Yes.

She decided to  try them.

She reached out last week.

To let me know she is feeling great.

And optimistic.

I'm happy for her.

Because she's taking control.

And feels good in her skin.

All because she took that first step.
