Say No!! A Good Form of Selfcare๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšซ

Two simple letters that make up a word, can be a full sentence. N-O. 

 

Why is it so hard for some of us to say it?

 

Try it with me, no. No. NO.

 

I have been reading "Influence is your superpower" by Zoe Chance, and she gave a fascinating explanation as to why some of us find it so hard to say no.

 

She says, "you have to start with no to expand both your comfort zone and your power”

 

That line hit me.

 

Never split the difference, author Christopher Voss, sees no as the beginning of a negotiation. 

 

Most of us people-pleasers see it as a final decision.

 

No means the end.  That is most like why we have a problem saying no.

 

No, I will not meet today.

No, I am not available for you to "pick my brain."

No, I will not join the group.

No, I will not be coming to the party.

 

My new point of view is that saying "no" to others is a way of saying "yes" to ourselves.  

 

No is the ultimate form of self-care.

 

And no, it is not selfish.

 

When you look at it this way, no, I am unable to (fill in the blank) for you means, "yes, I am able to (fill in the blank) for myself.

 

Zoe Chance encourages us to try saying no for a 25-hour period. 

 

I encourage you to try this with me.

 

No is the best form of self-care, and you don’t have to explain yourself.
