Are You Throwing Your Time Away?

Aug 14, 2022

Are you unintentionally throwing your time away?

Our most precious commodity is time.

We are often trying to find more time.

More time to get things done, more time to spend with loved ones, more time to live.

During one of my most recent interviews on the Dr. Tamara Beckford Show, I spoke with my colleague Dr. Delia Chiaramonte, MD, MS, a palliative care specialist.

She spends time with those who have chronic and sometimes terminal illnesses. She said something surprising during our conversation. One would think most of her patients are sad and worried. But it is quite the opposite. Most of them are content.

Why? Because they have learned the power of "time." Instead of worrying if they have enough time, they enjoy every moment. Every breath, every ray of sunshine, or every drop of rain. Because these signs are reminders of the beauty of life.

If you are like me, you might find yourself worrying about your "next task".

But when I catch myself spiraling deep into the worry, I use my PAUSE method to help.

P= Pause.

A=Acknowledge that time will pass whether you take action or not.

U=Understand that worrying will not change the situation. Only action will.

S=  Set selfcare goals and build in time to do things I love with those whom I love.

E= Execute on those goals.

That’s it.

If you are robbing yourself of time, try PAUSE it may help.

Reply and tell me what you are making time for this week.

Always wishing you the best,

Dr. Beckford
