I had just finished speaking in Martha’s Vineyard.
A room full of high-achieving women.
We talked about stress. Weight. Wellness.
All the things.
The next day, Delta canceled my flight.
What followed was a marathon:
Taxi to ferry.
Ferry to bus.
Bus to airport.
Flight to the first airport.
Flight from the second airport home.
Sixteen hours in motion,
Just to make it back in time for my child’s birthday.
And here’s what struck me somewhere between the ferry and the bus:
When I was still working full-time in the ER, this would have been a disaster.
Scramble for coverage.
Stress about patients, coworkers, and the guilt of missing another family milestone.
But this time was different.
I was anxious, yes.
But I wasn’t stressed.
Because I had stopped settling.
And what that meant in real life was:
- I could extend my stay a day while we figured out new travel options.
- I didn’t have to beg for coverage or negotiate with anyone else’s schedule.
- I could focus on what mattered.
And I thought about the women I coach.
Settling has looked like:
- Saying yes to every request at work while silently resenting the exhaustion.
- Calling weight gain “just my age” when really it was stress running the show.
- Smiling through burnout because “everyone’s counting on me.”
Settling doesn’t always look like giving up.
Sometimes it looks like being “responsible.”
Sometimes it looks like doing what everyone else expects.
Sometimes it even earns you applause.
But the applause never makes up for the cost.
That’s why I tell women don’t settle for the life you inherited.
Design the one you actually want.
For me, that means work that gives me both impact and flexibility.
For my clients, it means a body that feels strong, cravings that don’t control them, and energy that finally matches their ambition.
So let me ask you.
