It is the happiest time of the year for some. For others, it is stressful because they struggle to turn “off” work and enjoy the season.

Here are 7 strategies for you to be present this season.

Ditch the technology. Turn off work emails, the Slack channel. and hide your work computer in a drawer. Put some friction between your ability to access the technology. Practice out of sight and out of mind.

Schedule time for self-care. You deserve it. Read a book. Go for a walk or exercise, catch up on sleep do something that fills your cup.

Set boundaries. Remember, no is a complete sentence. Don’t want to visit certain groups of people because they stress you out? Say that and be clear. You don’t “have to do” anything. Don’t feel bad for doing that.

Turn off the alarm. Enjoy that time instead of rushing out of bed. You can read, meditate, journal, or sit with your thoughts.

Practice gratitude. Pause, reflect, and write down a list of people you are grateful for. It is hard to be grateful and sad at the same time.

Give yourself grace. You don’t need to be perfect, and that’s ok. You didn’t buy all the holiday gifts or make your favorite dish? That’s ok. Permit yourself to skip the judgment because you are doing the best you can/

Do something you enjoy. It is easier to be present and engaged if you spend time with people who lift your spirits and activities you like. Find those activities. This may be spending time with your kids, hiking in the woods, or going to the movies.

If you are a leader, remember emails over the holiday can wait, so fight the urge to “check in” with the team. They will thank you for it.

That’s it for this week.

Happy holidays!

Always wishing you the best,
